Reflection

Technology is used by the average person throughout the day, whether it is for Facebook, reading the newspaper, watching videos, or just messaging someone who isn’t close enough to talk to in person. It has become an intricate part of the daily lives of humans in general it is almost hard to think about life without it.

As far as digital spaces are concerned, they are continuously growing; molding into new shapes and creating new places for people to become creative. For the longest time only a small handful of people were able to code websites and design certain pages to do what they wanted, yet in today’s society, the younger generation has started to learn the language of HTML coding and taking it upon themselves to create new inventive ways in using this code, for things like themes on Tumblr or creating their own websites they are able to run.

Of course most digital spaces revolves around some sort of socialising. For Tumblr many of high schoolers and college students, it is a place where people are able to create posts which show their personalities, and personal likes. People are then able to reblog these posts and show the person that either what they want to show people or inform them, it is important. Through reblogging, people are able to follow users who have common interests or like minded thoughts. Yet it is not just a community where people reblog. In fact, there is another “side” of Tumblr for the writing community.

Many writers are Tumblr tend to role play, either characters which already exists, otherwise known as canon characters, or they have original characters, otherwise known as OCs. People create individual blogs for the character and start by create a post which is essentially the start of a thread. People are then able to reblog this post and add their own content. Afterwards, the original blogger will reblog it adding more. This process repeats itself until the two who are role playing feel the thread is finished or they no longer want to write for the thread. Many people have improved upon their writing by doing this.

Another type of writer on Tumblr are those who post either original stories, or they post fanfiction. They use their blog as a way of promoting their writing from another website, or just have the blog contain all the text. The writer gets more popularity as their work continues to be reblogged for others to read.

This concept of reblogging and posting also works for artists as well.

As far as if digital spaces such as Tumblr will stick around, of course. It might not be the same as when it first started, considering digital spaces are constantly changing (just ask a Tumblr user about the more recent changes). But the concept behind the spaces are what is important. Like minded people are able to gather under a website and able to share, create, and even remix materials of all kinds. For humans, creativity is a must in order to stay sane in the constantly fast paced world they live in. These digital spaces are only one source of an outlet for those creative enough. There is high doubt as to seeing these spaces suddenly stop being used.
